FAQ
These are frequently asked questions and we hope that they may assist with any queries you may have - if not feel free to contact us.Q) Do I need planning Permission for my Beamlock building?
A) In certain cases it may not be required - but we would always recommend checking with your Local Authority.
Q) Is Beamlock manufactured in oak?
A) No. Beamlock is manufactured from treated laminated Pinus Sylvestrus which, with it's mechanical fixing system, provides an extemely strong structure. This has been tested to prove it stonger than an equialent oak frame constructed using traditional methods
Q) Does the Beamlock system come ready to erect?
A) Yes - if you purchase from us. We prepare each building to suit the required design, including supply of fixing kits and plinth sets. Alternatively it is available as a basic system although this will require some 'on-site' manufacture including routering for braces, inserting metalwork and staining (as recommended by manufacturers).
Q) Do we have to have standard sizes?
A) No. We can manufacture to suit your requirements - within the design parameters of the system. If you can provide us with a basic sketch of your requirements we will design the Beamlock system to suit. (Please contact us if you require further details).
Q) Are we restricted to certain roof coverings?
A) No. The Beamlock system is designed to suit most roof tiles, slates etc. including Ruberoid felt shingles, cedar shingles, slates, concrete or clay tiles.
Q) Which areas of the country do you cover?
A) We cover the entire UK on both a supply only and a supply and erection basis.
Q) Is the Beamlock system suitable for a first floor room over?
A) Yes. The structure has been designed to take first floor loadings subject to minor alterations.
Q) Does the Beamlock carry any certification?
A) Extensive testing has been carried out at Brighton University and the Building Research Establishment (BRE). These tests included racking, wind loads and fire resitance. The BRE has subsequently provided certification - Certificate No. 108/03.
Q) What are the delivery periods for my building?
A) If you require supply only we can normally accommodate you within 2-3 weeks of order and deposit. If you require our erection service too, then we generally work to a six week lead-in from order/deposit.
Q) What are your payment terms?
A) For all projects we require a 30% deposit with your order - once design and prices have been agreed. If we are purely supplying then the balance would be due seven days prior to dispatch. If the building is on a supply and erect basis then the balance of the monies would be due on completion, with larger projects involving stage payments during the build process.
Q) Can I specify the external cladding?
A) You can use almost any material to infill the sides of your building including timber, render and brickwork. You will probably be more restricted by Planning Approvals than the Beamlock system.
Q) Can you carry out the complete project for me including Planning and Building Regulation Applications?
A) Yes. We can offer a full Project Managment service to include preparation of drawings, submission of Approvals, all on-site works, providing you with a finished building on completion.
Q) What do we need to do now to start things moving?
A) If you can provide us with a rough sketch of the type of building you require, with sizes, and tell us what you would like us to do, we will provide a detailed, no obligation, quotation for the works. Planning and Building Approvals can then be addressed, either by you or us, prior to an order being placed and works being commenced.
Q) Do you have any buildings that we can look at?
A) Yes. We have show buildings at our office and also a selected number of other completed projects that can be viewed by prior arrangement. Please contact us for further details.
